5 Tips for Indians to settle in Canada

Canada is the new favourite land for people to migrate to from India and for good reason. But many a times, Indians find it a little difficult to adopt Canada as their new home. This is why; we have put together a list of top tips that can help you settle in Canada happily.

1. Look forward and accept change

One of the biggest things that you have to come to terms with is the fact that your life is about to change in a major way. A new country has accepted you as its citizen so it is time for you to be able to fully accept it as your new home.

Focus on all the things that you are truly good at and look for employment where you can do justice to your skills. If you excel in your field Canadians are very quick to recognise efforts and felicitate them. Just make sure that unless you accept change wholeheartedly, it might get very difficult for you to survive the rest of your life there.

2. Stop converting your currency

If you continue to convert your spending form Canadian Dollars to Indian rupees, you will probably get a mild shock each time you do so. Don’t try to gauge expenses and costs based on Indian currency. Yes things might seem expensive but that is their unit of earning, so there, it might not be very expensive at all.

Remember that unlike a tourist from India, who is essentially earning in Indian rupees and then spending in Canadian Dollars, you are now going to be able to earn in Canadian Dollars as well, so spending in the same currency should not be a problem.

3. Appearances matter

If you want to be respected in the community in Canada, it is important that you look respectable. It is very important to be well dressed and polished if you want to be seen as someone who is educated and knows how behave in a society.

Being well groomed as opposed to be unkempt is the first step. In fact, looking the part is absolutely important in every aspect. You don’t want to come across as unhygienic and downright lazy, when you have so much more to offer.

4. No Job is too small

While in India, one might feel that the job of a waiter is menial, in Canada, each and every profession is respected so long as you are hardworking and dedicated. Until you find the right job that you believe suits your potential and your qualifications, do not hesitate to take up any job for your sustenance.

In fact, it might even be a good idea for you to undertake a local course while you are at it. This will increase your credibility as well as improve your chances of landing a good job.

5. Plan everything ahead of time

Don’t wait to move there to start searching for a job or an accommodation. Start your planning while you are still here so that you can make sure that once there, you know where to start. Often, finding the right place to live on the right budget becomes the most challenging part about moving to a new country. However, if you do some research and get the right post visa assistance in time, you will realise that things don’t have to be so difficult at all.

In Conclusion

Be committed. To make anything work, you have to be committed towards it. A change so big will not be absolutely seamless right form the first day. You have to make sure that you keep an open mind and are willing to accept everyday as it comes to you.
